Scalable Object Storage for Backup, Archiving, and Data Workloads
Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is a highly scalable, secure, and durable object storage service used by organizations of all sizes to store and retrieve any amount of data from anywhere. S3’s flexibility supports a wide range of use cases including backup and restore, archive and compliance retention, data lakes, and hybrid cloud storage workflows.
As data footprints grow and long-term retention requirements become more demanding, organizations are looking for ways to complement their primary S3 storage with cost-optimized archive tiers that reduce expense while meeting compliance or governance needs. Through its partnership with Geyser Data, AWS S3 environments can extend into a dedicated cold archive tier that helps customers store backup and archival copies more cost efficiently.
Customer Value
Together, AWS S3 and Geyser Data help organizations manage data across its lifecycle with confidence. Customers benefit from S3’s scalable, highly available storage for production and backup workloads paired with Geyser Data’s cost-efficient cold archive tier for long-term retention. The result is simplified lifecycle management, lowered total storage costs, and strong security and governance for archived data without the operational overhead of managing separate archive infrastructure.
Geyser and AWS S3
AWS S3 environments integrate with Geyser Data by using the Geyser Cold Data Cloud as a destination for long-term backup and archive storage. While S3 itself includes various storage classes for infrequently accessed data, Geyser provides an alternative cold archive tier that organizations can target for data that must be retained securely over extended periods.
Because both S3 and Geyser use S3-compatible APIs, it’s straightforward to configure lifecycle policies, backup tools, or data management software to tier older backups or archival copies into Geyser’s cold archive. This gives customers a practical multi-tier storage strategy where active and nearline data remain in AWS while long-term retention lives in a predictable archive layer that helps control costs and avoids unpredictable cloud archive retrieval fees.
