FujiFilm: New Tape-as-a-Service Delivers Benefits of Tape in a Cloud Model
Oct 29, 2024
According to Fujifilm, Geyser Data introduced a new Tape-as-a-Service offering that brings the proven benefits of tape storage into a modern, cloud-based subscription model. The service is designed for organizations managing rapidly growing volumes of cold data driven by compliance requirements, long-term retention, media archives, and AI workloads.
Geyser Data’s platform allows customers to use familiar S3-compatible workflows without purchasing, operating, or maintaining physical tape infrastructure. By combining tape durability with cloud simplicity, the service delivers predictable pricing, eliminates restore and egress fees, and provides scalable archive capacity that grows on demand. Security is strengthened through dedicated tapes, true air-gapped isolation, and customer-controlled encryption keys, reducing exposure to cyber threats.
The solution also emphasizes sustainability, as tape consumes significantly less power and generates far less e-waste than disk-based storage. Fujifilm highlights how this approach helps organizations lower costs, simplify operations, and responsibly store massive datasets while keeping archived data accessible, secure, and economically viable for the long term.
